What this site collects, what it never sees, and what stays in your browser.
Who we are and what this covers
This website is operated by AB Arts & Sciences, LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information this website collects, how it is used, and what choices you have.
It covers this website only. When you follow a link to another site, that site's own privacy practices apply from that point.
The calculators collect nothing
Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. The dimensions you type, the material you select, and the results you get are never sent to us: there is no server receiving them, and nothing about a calculation is stored anywhere.
This is how the site is built: the calculators are static pages with the arithmetic running locally, and the site has no database behind them.
What we do collect
Two things: aggregate information about how the site is used, and anything you choose to send us by email.
- Communications. If you contact us directly, we keep that correspondence.
- Usage information. Pages viewed, referring addresses, approximate location derived from an IP address, and device or browser type. This is aggregate analytics rather than a record of you.
Analytics
This site counts visits so we can see which calculators are useful. The tools behave differently.
Umami counts page views, referring sites, and device type, and records the country, region, and city it estimates from your IP address. It does not store the IP address itself and does not set cookies. We run Umami ourselves, on our own server, so these counts are not sent to another company.
Analytics are used to understand which calculators are useful and where the site is failing people. They are not used to build a profile of you, and no analytics data is combined with anything you send us.
Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information is held about you, to request a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, and to opt out of its being shared. Residents of California and several other states have specific statutory rights of this kind.
Write to the address below and say what you would like. Include the email address you wrote from if you can, since it is how the record is found. We will respond within the period the applicable law provides.
How long we keep it, and how it is protected
Email correspondence is kept for as long as it is needed and for the period our records obligations require. Analytics data is retained according to each service's own retention settings.
This site is served over HTTPS. No system is perfect, and we do not claim otherwise. But the calculators themselves store nothing on our side, because everything they do happens in your browser.
California residents: additional rights
If you live in California, the CCPA and the CPRA give you rights beyond the general ones above. You have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected and what they are used for, to ask for a copy of it, to have it corrected or deleted, to opt out of its being sold or shared, and not to be treated differently for exercising any of those rights.
Advertising and sale. This site does not carry advertising and does not sell personal information. If that changes, this section will be rewritten before it does.
To exercise any of these rights, write to the address at the end of this policy and say which right you are exercising. Give us the email address you wrote from if you can, since it is how the record is found. We will confirm receipt and respond within the period California law allows.
Residents of other states
Several other states have enacted consumer privacy laws, including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon, and Nevada. If you live in one of them you may have rights similar to the California ones above, such as access, correction, deletion, and opting out of certain uses of your information, and some of those rights come with conditions that California's do not.
Write to the address at the end of this policy and say which state you live in and what you would like us to do. We will try to honor it in line with your state's law.
Children
This site is intended for adults planning and carrying out building and home improvement work. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent details to us through this site, write to the address below and it will be removed.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the change will be described here and the date below will move. Where the change affects what is done with information you have already submitted, we will provide notice before it takes effect and, where required, ask for your consent again.
