Terms of Use
The calculators are estimating tools. These are the terms you use them on.
Agreement to these terms
This website is operated by AB Arts & Sciences, LLC. By using it you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, you should not use the site.
These terms apply to everyone who visits the site, whether or not you write to us.
What this site is
CalcMule publishes calculators that estimate how much material a building or home improvement project needs, what it is likely to cost, and what else has to be bought alongside it. The calculators run in your browser.
The figures are estimates
This is the term that matters most. Every number this site produces is an estimate. The formulas and constants are sourced and dated, and shown on the page so you can check them, but they describe published averages and general conditions rather than your materials, your site, and your supplier.
Material coverage varies by product and by batch. Aggregate weight varies by source rock and gradation, and by how wet it is. Prices move, and the date each one was checked is printed on the page. Beds, rooms and roofs are never as regular as a calculation assumes.
Confirm quantities, specifications, and prices with your supplier before ordering anything. Where a figure on this site and a figure from your supplier disagree, your supplier's governs. We are not responsible for a shortage, an over-order, or a price that has moved since the date shown on the page.
Building codes and safety
Some calculators flag a building code requirement, a manufacturer's installation standard, or a safety rule: an underlayment requirement at a given roof pitch, a board thickness for a ceiling at a given framing spacing, the requirements for a barrier around a swimming pool. Those flags are there because the rules are real and commonly missed.
They are not a compliance guarantee. Building codes are amended locally, sometimes heavily, and the authority for any requirement is your local building department, not this website. The pool barrier rules in particular vary significantly between states and municipalities.
Nothing here is engineering, architectural or legal advice, and nothing here is a substitute for a licensed professional where the work needs one. If a project is structural, electrical, gas-related, or hazardous, consult someone qualified.
Acceptable use
You may use this site for its intended purpose: working out what a project needs. You may not scrape it at volume, republish its content as your own, present its output as professional advice to a third party, or attempt to interfere with its operation.
The calculators are free to use. Using a calculator does not oblige you to buy anything.
Intellectual property
The site's text, design, brand marks, and mascot artwork belong to AB Arts & Sciences, LLC. The formulas themselves are not proprietary (they are mathematics, and much of the data behind them comes from published manufacturer and trade sources), but the pages presenting them are ours.
You may quote or link to this site freely, and you may use the results of a calculation however you like. You may not copy the site wholesale.
Third-party sites and services
This site may link to suppliers, retailers, and other sites. Those destinations are not ours: their content, their prices, their availability, and their privacy practices are theirs. A link is not an endorsement.
If the site ever earns money from a link, the Disclosure page says so.
No warranty
This site is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that it will be available, that it will be free of errors, or that any figure it produces is accurate, complete, or suitable for your project.
We correct errors when they are reported, but we cannot promise a number is right for a job we have never seen.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither AB Arts & Sciences, LLC nor its members, officers, employees, agents, or service providers will be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from your use of this site, including lost profits, lost materials, project delays, or the cost of correcting work done on the basis of a figure from this site.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us to use the site, which is $0.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from your use of this site will be brought in the state or federal courts serving the county in which AB Arts & Sciences, LLC is established, and you consent to that venue.
Before bringing a claim, write to the address below and allow at least thirty days for a good-faith attempt to resolve it informally.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated, and the date below will move when they are. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
